app.media

This object defines properties and functions useful in multimedia JavaScript code.

Several app.media properties are enumeration objects that list the values allowed in various properties. Future versions of Acrobat may add more such values, and JavaScript code should be prepared to encounter values other than the ones listed here. Similarly, JavaScript code may be run on an older version of Acrobat than it was designed for, in which case it must fall back to using the values available in that version.

Note:The app.media is part of the Acrobat 6.0 (and Later) Compatible Media JavaScript API. Multimedia assets that use this approach rely on the underlying operating system to locate and launch a multimedia player residing on the user’s system. Acrobat 9.0 natively supports Flash video (FLV) and Flash applications (SWF) which can be embedded in, or streamed to, a PDF document. Native support for Flash enables reliable cross-platform playback. No additional media player or specific codec is necessary.

Acrobat 6.0 (and Later) Compatible Media is superseded by the multimedia of Acrobat 9.0, which uses rich media annotations. Developers of PDFs with multimedia assets are, therefore, strongly encouraged to use the rich media annotations of Acrobat 9. Refer to the AnnotRichMedia object for JavaScript support for rich media annotations.
