Skills

This repository includes two skills for building and maintaining harnesses:

  • harness-setup — builds a new harness or migrates scattered scaffolding to the canonical structure (pairs with chapters 7 and 8)
  • harness-inspect — health check or full audit of an existing harness (pairs with chapter 9)

The two skills ship with this guide and work in Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Cursor. One repo-harness plugin (source: harness-plugin/) is published through Claude- and Cursor-format marketplace manifests; the Claude-format manifest is also auto-detected by GitHub Copilot. Any agent that scans .agents/skills/ can read the skills with no install.

How updates work depends on how you installed. With the native .agents/skills/ scan, the skills track your checkout — pull the repo to update. If you copied the skill directories into your project, re-copy them to update. Only the plugin/marketplace installs below have explicit update commands, and they are not automatic by default (except VS Code's periodic extension check). Cursor has no per-tool update command — it uses the native scan.

Claude Code

Then invoke with /repo-harness:harness-setup or /repo-harness:harness-inspect.

Update later by enabling auto-updates, or manually with /plugin marketplace update repo-harness then /plugin update repo-harness.

GitHub Copilot

Zero-config (recommended for this repo): Copilot natively scans .agents/skills/ — open this repo as a VS Code workspace (or copy .agents/skills/harness-{setup,inspect}/ into your project). Skills are available immediately and always in sync with the checkout.

Install without cloning (CLI): Copilot auto-detects the Claude-format marketplace manifest.

Update later with copilot plugin update repo-harness — installs pin a version and do not update automatically.

Install without cloning (VS Code, Preview): VS Code Agent Plugins are a Preview feature (availability depends on your VS Code version). Add "chat.plugins.marketplaces": ["adobe/ai-repo-harness-guide"] to settings.json, then install repo-harness from the Agent Plugins view. VS Code re-checks marketplace repos every 24h when extensions.autoUpdate is on.

A standalone .vsix extension is a niche fallback only — see harness-plugin/README.md.

Cursor (2.5+)

Cursor natively reads .agents/skills/ — open this repo as a workspace (or copy .agents/skills/harness-{setup,inspect}/ into your project). Skills are available immediately; update by pulling the repo (or re-copying the directories).

A .cursor-plugin/ marketplace manifest is included for future Cursor Marketplace submission.
